Amouage Doubles Down on Extrait Concentration With Decision 42 and Overture 41

Amouage is expanding its Exceptional Extraits collection with two new $550 fragrances, Decision 42 and Overture 41. The extraits will be sold at Amouage boutiques and on amouage.com starting this week, with distribution to global retailers from Oct. 1.

True to the house's concentration-forward approach, the names denote the precise percentage of perfume oil in each formula. Decision 42, composed by Quentin Bisch, features a 42 percent concentration and undergoes six weeks of aging; it reworks Decision, the 2025 eau de parfum. Overture 41, created by Annick Menardo at 41 percent concentration with the same maturation period, is based on Overture Woman, the 2020 Harrods exclusive.

The creative process behind the reworkings was intense, according to Renaud Salmon, Amouage's chief creative officer. Speaking about the original Decision eau de parfum, he described it as a 'story of a juniper tree struck by lightning,' posing a question about survival. Salmon noted that Overture Woman was already dramatic and 'a truly scene-stealing piece of work,' making it a singular challenge to elevate further.

The launches come at a moment when extrait de parfum is re-emerging as a key format for premium positioning in fine fragrance. A study by the French publication Nez, titled 'What Is Concentration,' points to a wave of extrait introductions from brands including Chanel and Byredo in 2026, arguing the format has become the industry's preferred lever for price-tier elevation.

With its numeric nomenclature, Amouage sets itself apart from competitors who use more abstract labels such as 'élixir' or 'absolu.' The move underscores the Omani brand's effort to make concentration a centerpiece of its luxury proposition.
