AI Discovery Leaves Luxury Skincare Brands Behind, Euromonitor Finds
Six of the 10 biggest luxury and premium skincare brands by e-commerce rank fall outside the top 300 for AI referrals, and only 8% of skincare brands show measurable AI traffic at all.
An analysis of 36,917 skincare brands found that strong traditional online sales do not translate into visibility inside AI-driven discovery tools. Six of the 10 largest luxury and premium skincare names by e-commerce rank sit outside the top 300 when ranked by AI referrals, according to Euromonitor.
The divergence is stark for Helena Rubinstein, which placed 15th globally for e-commerce but 1,531st for AI referrals. For every consumer who reaches the brand through an AI referral, 300 reach mass-market label Neutrogena.
Only 8% of skincare brands show measurable AI referrals, the research found, leaving most of the category effectively unmeasured in this channel.
Two prestige houses buck the pattern. Estée Lauder ranks second in global e-commerce and Lancôme sixth, and both appear among the top 50 brands for AI referrals.
The report attributes the gap to how AI systems evaluate products, which differs from the emotional storytelling, prestige cues, exclusivity and sensory language that luxury skincare marketing has historically relied on.
