TSG’s Creator-Led Beauty Brand Portfolio Takes Shape With Saltair Deal

TSG’s acquisition of a majority stake in Saltair this week signals a possible strategy to build a portfolio of creator-led beauty brands, following Summer Fridays and Phlur. The pattern could eventually lead to a stand-alone public company.

This week’s announcement that TSG has taken a majority stake in Saltair adds another name to a growing list of beauty investments with a common thread. Summer Fridays, Phlur and now Saltair are all creator-led brands — built by founders who first cultivated an audience through content, social media, celebrity or personal influence before turning that trust into a business.

They also span different product categories and share a similar vintage, having become culturally relevant over the past five or six years. Notably, all three were previously backed by Prelude Growth Partners, and two of the three were incubated by The Center.

The pattern has led some to wonder whether TSG is assembling something larger than a collection of individual bets — a coherent portfolio that could eventually stand on its own in the public markets. While there is no confirmation of such an endgame, the combination of brands appears increasingly intentional.
