Symbiome Marries Regenerative Sourcing and Microbiome Science in Skincare
The New York City-based startup combines sustainably harvested Amazonian botanicals with clinical research to target root causes of chronic skin conditions.
Founded in October 2020 by Dr. Larry Weiss, Symbiome positions itself as a healthcare company rather than a traditional skincare brand. Its mission is to address endemic inflammatory conditions in Western populations by restoring the skin microbiome through topical products.
The company sources botanicals from Amazonia using regenerative harvesting methods, then ferments them to create formulations designed to rebalance the skin ecosystem. This approach contrasts with conventional skincare, which has long focused on surface-level ingredients like active compounds and exfoliants.
President Adam Klausner leads the executive team alongside Weiss, who serves as Chief Scientific Officer. The startup has secured angel investment and operates primarily through direct-to-consumer channels.
Industry estimates project Symbiome's 2026 full-year revenue between $2 million and $5 million. The brand targets consumers increasingly aware of the microbiome's role in skin health, a shift the founders believe creates a ripe market for their evidence-based approach.
