Brunello Cucinelli Opens Three-Storey Casa Cucinelli in Shanghai's Jing'an District

Brunello Cucinelli has opened Casa Cucinelli at the China Resources Centre in Shanghai's Jing'an district, a three-floor space built around the idea of an Italian home rather than a conventional boutique.

The Italian luxury house has taken over Cao Zhai, a historic residence in Jing'an that dates to 1927, and organised the interior around domestic life rather than product display. The ground floor is given over to reading, dining and conversation, with a library holding more than 1,000 Chinese and Western classics linked to a café, a dining room and private reception areas.

Merchandise sits on the upper levels, with the women's collections on the second floor and the men's collections on the third. The layout places the retail floors above spaces intended for browsing books or meeting friends, echoing the rhythms of a private house.

The renovation sought to retain as much of Cao Zhai's original structure and historic character as possible, including its original doors and windows. The company said the result should feel neither intimidating nor remote despite its luxury positioning, and that visitors should be able to walk in as easily as they would call on a friend.

Cucinelli framed the Shanghai project as more than a showcase and sales point for clothing. The house is intended as a point of contact with Chinese clients of the brand, and the choice of a building tied to the city's own past places Italian hospitality alongside local culture rather than simply restaging an Italian lifestyle in Shanghai.

Casa Cucinelli marks the label's latest physical investment in the Chinese market, where luxury groups continue to compete for space and attention in major urban centres.
