Bedrock Robotics raises $600M at $4.1B valuation for self-driving excavators
Bedrock Robotics has closed a $600 million Series C round at a $4.1 billion valuation, as the two-year-old company moves its self-driving excavator kits from trials to active construction sites.
The round was co-led by CapitalG and Emergence Capital. It comes two months after Bedrock shifted its autonomous excavators beyond testing and pilot programs and put them to work on commercial worksites.
Bedrock’s retrofit kit adds self-driving capability to construction and other worksite vehicles. Equipped excavators are now operating at a Nevada water treatment facility, an earthwork site run by Champion Site Prep in Texas, and a 1.2 million-cubic-yard civil sitework project with Zachry Construction Corporation.
The company has raised nearly $1 billion since its founding in 2024 by a group of autonomous-vehicle and robotics veterans. It is focusing on excavators in part because of a growing shortage of skilled operators.
Co-founder and CEO Boris Sofman previously led Waymo’s self-driving truck program, which has since shut, and co-founded Anki Robotics, maker of the Cozmo consumer robot, which closed in 2019. Other co-founders include Waymo veterans Kevin Peterson, chief technology officer, and Ajay Gummalla, vice president of engineering and infrastructure.
