Hong Kong retail sales rise 7.9% in May, online spending surges 33.1%
Hong Kong's retail sales grew 7.9% year on year to HK$33.8 billion in May, with online sales accounting for 10.1% of the total, according to the Census & Statistics Department.
Total retail sales rose 7.9% year on year to HK$33.8 billion during the month. After adjusting for price changes, the volume of total retail sales increased 4.8% from a year earlier.
Among retail categories, sales of consumer goods not elsewhere classified posted the largest gain, rising 14.8% year on year.
