Chanel Expands Les Extraits Line With Limited Boutique Distribution
Chanel is rolling out its Les Extraits fragrance line in select stores via appointment-only sales, with 50 locations in China and 200 globally, following a Shanghai event that highlighted the new 1957 Extrait and Extrait-to-Wear spray.
Chanel held an intimate gathering in Shanghai to showcase recent additions to its Les Extraits fragrance line, including the new 1957 Extrait and the travel-friendly Extrait-to-Wear spray, while previewing an upcoming Extrait-in-Oil format.
The exclusive line will be sold like precious jewelry through appointment-only transactions in 50 stores across China and 200 worldwide, underscoring its limited distribution strategy.
The 1957 fragrance, a musky composition created by in-house perfumer Olivier Polge in 2019, was originally launched under the Les Exclusifs series to honor the year founder Gabrielle Chanel returned to the U.S. market. In China, it unexpectedly became a symbol of prosperity and wealth, driving strong sales.
Polge described the Extrait version as a more textured and slightly darker interpretation of the original. "If the original 1957 was a crisp cotton shirt, the Extrait version would be a delicate light chiffon," he said.
The expansion reflects both market demand and creative exploration, with the 1957 Extrait presented in a diamond-shaped box, adding to the line's prestige positioning.
