Walmart to Accept Apple Pay and Google Pay at U.S. Stores

Walmart will begin accepting Apple Pay and Google Pay at select locations starting Aug. 24, with a full U.S. rollout by the end of 2026.

Eligible contactless card, phone, and smartwatch payment options will be accepted, according to the company. A Walmart spokesperson confirmed that Apple Pay will be included, while Google separately confirmed that Google Pay will also be supported.

"We want customers and members to have choice in how they pay, so they can check out in the way that works best for them," the company said. Google's vice president and general manager of payments, Stavan Parikh, added, "This update builds on Google and Walmart's ongoing partnership, bringing the convenience and security of Google Pay to one of your favorite stores."

Walmart has long been a holdout on accepting these widely used payment methods, with Apple Pay debuting more than a decade ago in 2014. Instead, the retailer pushed its own payment solutions, including Walmart Pay and the OnePay Wallet.

The move marks a shift in Walmart's payment strategy and builds on existing collaborations between the companies, including previous work on AI shopping and drone deliveries with Google sister company Wing.
