Visit Norway Turns Trump Insult Into Traffic Surge With Restroom Page
Visit Norway repurposed a five-year-old page about public toilets along scenic routes after President Donald Trump insulted the country, drawing tens of thousands of visits. By Friday, page views were more than 540 times higher than the prior week.
President Donald Trump said “Norway sucks” and used a crude term to describe the country at a Sunday rally in Michigan, after the Oslo-based Nobel committee did not award him a peace prize.
Visit Norway, the country’s destination marketing organization, responded by revising a five-year-old web page that lists distinctive public toilets along scenic routes. The edit was made Monday night.
The page was updated to say Norway makes restrooms “great again,” a reference to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan. Visit Norway also said the country has some of the world’s most beautiful and spectacular toilets.
By Friday, the page had attracted tens of thousands of views, with traffic more than 540 times higher than the week before. It became Visit Norway’s most-viewed page.
