Runware Unveils Portable Modular Data Center for AI Inference

AI infrastructure company Runware has introduced the Sonic Inference Pod, a transportable modular data center designed to offer lower-cost, high-quality AI inference and rapid capacity scaling.

Runware, an AI infrastructure startup, on Tuesday launched its Sonic Inference Pod, a modular data center built as a single transportable unit. The pod is positioned as a more flexible alternative to the massive data center projects of hyperscalers, allowing compute to be deployed where it is needed.

According to the company, the pod delivers inference at higher quality and lower cost than other serverless inference platforms and GPU clouds. Its modular design enables capacity to be added quickly by creating new pods, rather than expanding a fixed data center.

The system can scale and add capacity fast, deploy anywhere with power, and adapt quickly to new hardware releases, said co-founder and CEO Flaviu Radulescu. He argued that distributed compute positioned closer to end users will win in the long term, enabling faster inference.

Radulescu noted that demand for inference is growing faster than facilities can be built, and the company aims to power the world's intelligence with capacity that keeps up with demand. Runware currently has 10 pods in deployment across the U.S., Europe, and Asia-Pacific.
