Meta Unveils Muse, a Personal AI Agent That Taps Email, Calendars and Payments

Meta has introduced Muse, a personal AI agent for U.S. users that connects to everyday apps and services to carry out tasks on their behalf, in what the company calls its largest consumer AI bet to date.

The agent, announced on Tuesday, is designed to plug into the apps and services people already use daily — email, calendars and payments among them — as well as health and fitness tools, smart home systems, dining, shopping, music and events platforms.

Meta says Muse can send emails, book travel, lower bills, fill out forms, build plans, convert recipe reels into grocery lists, send party invitations and make purchases, with checkout handled through Link by Stripe.

The launch positions Muse as a step beyond the chatbot era, in which AI assistants largely answered questions, acted as sounding boards or served as digital companions. Muse is built around taking action rather than offering conversation.

Access comes at a cost in data terms: using the agent requires consumers to hand Meta more personal information than previous products demanded, spanning messages, schedules, transactions and health-related activity.

The announcement landed less than two weeks after Meta agreed to an $18 billion multistate settlement in a lawsuit over social media's consumer harms, a backdrop that sharpens questions about whether users will extend the company the trust the product requires.

Muse is initially available to users in the United States.
