Lush Returns to Social Media on Bluesky After 2021 Exit

Lush has joined Bluesky, marking its first return to a major social platform since abandoning Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat and X in 2021 over mental health concerns.

The move is not a full reversal but an evolution, according to Lush, which said the decentralized platform better aligns with its values around transparency, community and digital well-being. The company emphasized it is not renewing its embrace of traditional social media but seeking online spaces that prioritize user health.

Lush’s decision comes as brands across beauty and retail reassess their digital marketing strategies amid declining organic reach, algorithm changes, misinformation and growing dissatisfaction with major platforms. Emerging networks like Bluesky are attracting companies looking for alternatives, though it remains unclear whether they can become meaningful commercial channels or remain niche communities.

Lush first withdrew from Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Snapchat in late 2021, arguing the platforms exposed users to harmful content and prioritized engagement over well-being. It later left X as well. The company’s return highlights a broader industry shift toward owned communities, first-party customer relationships and transparency in digital engagement.
