Kalshi demands Netflix remove documentary trailer over defamation claims
Prediction market Kalshi sent a cease-and-desist letter to Netflix on Friday, demanding the removal of the trailer for 'Instadocs: The Prediction Games,' alleging it contains fabricated documents and false statements.
Kalshi, a regulated prediction market, has escalated a dispute with Netflix over the upcoming documentary 'Instadocs: The Prediction Games.' In a cease-and-desist letter dated Friday, Kalshi's legal team claimed the trailer is defamatory and includes both fabricated documents and misleading information.
The documentary, part of Netflix's fast-turnaround Instadoc series, features interviews with Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan and Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour. However, the trailer focuses on a Las Vegas party where attendees discuss large winnings on prediction markets during the World Cup.
One partygoer in the trailer is shown declaring a preference for betting on Kalshi, while another displays a $5,000 bet on a phone screen. Kalshi objected, noting the company is currently banned from operating in Nevada under a court order.
In its letter, Kalshi argued that the bet displayed is actually a screenshot from May 16, 2025, months before the Nevada ban took effect. The company accused Netflix of misleading viewers into believing the individual could legally place sports event contracts in Nevada on July 19, 2026, when the trailer was released.
The cease-and-desist demands that Netflix take down the trailer immediately and refrain from further distribution. Netflix has not publicly responded to the request.
