Every weekend, JunJun and Masaki open their home in Qingdao to a group of women they have never met. The couple serves homemade food and encourages free-flowing conversation, creating a space they call Cat Family Dinner. The project began in 2024 and has since grown through word-of-mouth and posts on the social platform RedNote.
Initially, JunJun and Masaki frequently invited friends over to their living room to eat, chat, and spend time with their cats. They realized that this atmosphere of acceptance and lack of social pressure was something many people might need. So they began posting invitations on RedNote for strangers—specifically women—to join them.
Most evenings revolve around simple home-cooked meals and unstructured talk. Some gatherings are organized around specific themes; one recent discussion focused on women’s career choices under the title “The Many Careers We Can Choose.” The conversations explore participants’ professional experiences and personal stories.
The couple said they were surprised by the strong response to their invitations. The project has resonated with many women seeking genuine human connection in an increasingly disconnected world.
