Apple’s $2,000 iPhone Duo Draws Early Complaints of Cracked Screens

A small group of early iPhone Duo buyers say the foldable’s inner display has cracked, creased or malfunctioned within hours or days of use, marring the launch of a $2,000 device Apple positioned as a form-factor breakthrough.

Reports from early users describe the display failing soon after the phone is put into service. Some heard a sharp crunching sound before a crack appeared; others encountered display glitches. Several also noted prominent creases running down the center of the folding panel.

Apple said it was aware of an issue affecting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units.

The iPhone Duo was unveiled at this year’s Surprise and Shine event, where Apple promised it had finally mastered a notoriously difficult form factor. The handset carries a $2,000 price tag.

Foldable phones have long been an ambition in Silicon Valley, but many earlier models suffered from similar durability problems. The early complaints suggest Apple may not have resolved the issue after all.

The reports so far involve a small number of early adopters, but they mark a rough start for one of Apple’s most anticipated product launches.
