AI Videos on TikTok Go Mislead Hotel Travelers and Property Owners
TikTok's new hotel booking feature is being flooded with AI-generated videos that promote nonexistent amenities, raising concerns among property owners. A Sedona resort says a viral clip showcased a suite that does not exist.
At Ambiente Sedona, a resort surrounded by red rock landscape, a TikTok video with more than 315,000 views shows atrium suites at sunset, the scenery glowing through windows. Another clip features a creator praising a “peaceful pond” visible from her room’s floor-to-ceiling windows and encouraging viewers to book through a link in the post.
Property owner Jennifer May says neither the suite nor the pond exists. She also questions the creator’s authenticity: AI detection system Resemble.AI flagged the video as fake with 99.8% confidence.
The videos are tied to TikTok Go, the platform’s new hotel and experience booking feature. Accounts that generate successful bookings can earn a percentage-based commission on each sale, giving creators a financial incentive to produce polished but misleading content.
Travelers scrolling TikTok may find it difficult to distinguish real hotel offerings from AI-generated fantasies. Property owners worry the fabricated clips could lead guests to book stays based on amenities that are not actually available, creating confusion and disappointment once they arrive.
