Marine Serre seeks court protection amid cash flow crisis
French fashion label Marine Serre has been placed under court-supervised reorganisation in Paris to address cash flow issues caused by client non-payment.
The Paris Economic Activities Court approved the reorganisation on Tuesday, putting the company under judicial protection. Marine Serre employs around 50 staff and has been operating for nearly ten years.
The brand cited several clients’ failure to pay as the primary cause of its financial strain. The reorganisation aims to restore the company’s cash position, finance the production of its next collection, and prepare a continuation plan to maintain operations.
The move reflects broader challenges facing independent labels. Many have lost distribution channels after setbacks at US department stores and platforms like Ssense and Farfetch, which surged during the pandemic but have since struggled.
Despite the difficulties, Marine Serre’s team believes the brand’s strong desirability and its iconic Moon logo give it an advantage to emerge stronger from the court-supervised process.
