A two-month test of the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft reveals a device that is genuinely enjoyable to use, but one aimed at a specific audience. The e-reader is light and attractive, yet its size and cost put it out of reach for the average consumer.
The device starts at $630 and comes in Black or Fig, a muted purple. It weighs just 400 grams and has an 11-inch display, roughly the size of a standard sheet of paper. The slim build is impressive, but the footprint requires two hands or a stable surface.
In practice, the Colorsoft is most comfortable propped on the knees while reading in bed or laid flat on a desk. Unlike smaller e-readers that slip into a purse or bag, this model rarely left the house during the test period.
For note-takers and researchers, the larger screen offers ample space for writing, sketching, and annotating. The device could be a practical companion for office work or coffee-shop sessions, even if it is not a portable grab-and-go device.
While the Colorsoft is fun and appealing, it remains a niche product. Those who have been waiting for a color Kindle that doubles as a digital notebook may find it worth the investment, but it is hardly a must-have for the everyday reader.
