Kavalan Unveils Limited-Edition Solist Madeira Cask for Travel Retail

Kavalan Distillery has launched a one-litre limited edition of its Solist Madeira Cask Single Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky for global travel retail, rolling out across key Asian markets including South Korea, Singapore and Japan.

The Taiwanese distillery’s new expression is a first-fill single cask whisky bottled at natural cask strength, ranging from 50 to 59.9% ABV. It highlights the warmth of Madeira casks along with layered fruit, spice and refined sweetness.

The casks previously held Madeira wine produced on Portugal’s Madeira Island, a historic fortified wine known for its vibrant acidity and often called the ‘Voyage Wine’. Y.T. Lee, Chairman of King Car Group which owns Kavalan, noted that centuries ago such wine barrels travelled aboard merchant ships linking Europe, Asia and the Americas. The exposure to heat and movement during those voyages unintentionally enriched the wine’s flavour, shaping its distinctive character.

For this whisky, Kavalan selected casks that held wine made from Tinta Negra, Madeira’s principal grape variety. Lee said the intense fruit character of Tinta Negra complements Kavalan’s tropical whisky style.

The limited edition is now available in travel retail outlets across South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Japan.
