Heinemann and Sydney Airport Unveil Major Duty-Free Overhaul; MECCA to Enter International Terminal

Heinemann Oceania and Sydney Airport have embarked on an 18-month transformation of duty-free shopping at Australia's busiest gateway, with Australian beauty retailer MECCA making its first duty-free appearance.

Heinemann Oceania and Sydney Airport have agreed on a joint initiative to revamp the duty-free experience at Sydney Airport over the next 18 months. The comprehensive plan includes a complete redevelopment of the wines, spirits, tobacco, and confectionery zone, an overhaul of the beauty offer, and expansion of the Heinemann-operated Hermès boutique.

A key milestone is the entry of MECCA into the duty-free channel for the first time. The Australian prestige beauty retailer, founded in 1997, will open in the international terminal, building on its strong presence in domestic airport terminals. MECCA serves over four million customers annually and carries more than 200 beauty brands.

Victoria's Secret is also expanding into Australian duty-free, joining the lineup, while fast-growing beauty brand Aesop has recently made its Sydney Airport boutique debut in international Terminal 1. The refurbishment will also cover arrivals and gate shops, with further developments to be announced.

The partners said the transformation aims to refresh the entire duty-free retail offering, positioning Sydney Airport as a leading global shopping destination. The initiative underscores the growing importance of beauty and luxury retail in the travel sector.
