Disney Cuts Up to 200 Theme Park Jobs, Concentrated in Imagineering
Disney has laid off between 100 and 200 employees in its theme park division, with the cuts largely focused on its Imagineering design team. CEO Josh D’Amaro has said cost reduction is a priority at the company.
The reductions center on Imagineering, the Disney unit that designs and develops attractions, theme park lands and other offerings within the company’s experiences division.
The Walt Disney Company is cutting between 100 and 200 roles, a range that puts the total above 100. The affected team sits inside the broader theme park and experiences business.
CEO Josh D’Amaro has said he is highly focused on reducing costs at the media and parks giant. The job cuts reflect that emphasis, with the largest impact falling on the creative and development side of the theme park operation.
Disney’s experiences division includes theme parks and attractions that are central to its travel and leisure business. Imagineering works on the design and development of those attractions and park lands.
