Margo Marrone Reacquires The Organic Pharmacy, Returns as Owner

Pharmacist and wellness entrepreneur Margo Marrone has bought back The Organic Pharmacy, the British health and beauty brand she founded in 2002, and resumed her role as owner on Oct. 16. The move ends a decade of stewardship by the Ganassini family, which stays on as an Italian distribution partner.

The London-based brand returns to its founder after ten years under the Ganassini family, which Marrone credited with caring for the business during that period. The family will keep a stake in the relationship through its distribution of The Organic Pharmacy in Italy, while narrowing its wider focus to other pharmaceutical brands.

Marrone said the homecoming was "incredibly emotional" and that she is looking forward to "getting creative again and exploring what comes next for the brand." She framed the buyback as a chance to re-center the company on the principles it was built around, as consumer interest in preventative wellness and longevity grows.

She established The Organic Pharmacy to fuse pharmaceutical know-how with natural medicine, an approach that brought together formulated skin care, herbal medicine, homeopathy, nutritional supplements and personalized advice.

Her route into the field began more than 27 years ago, when she took a Saturday job at a local pharmacy. Watching the pharmacist prepare remedies and counsel customers set her on the path to the profession.

The brand's return to founder ownership places it back under the direction of a working pharmacist at a moment when the lines between clinical skincare and wellness retail are blurring.
