Cursor Launches India-Specific Subscription Plan Ahead of SpaceX Acquisition

Cursor, the AI coding startup set to be acquired by SpaceX, is making its most significant India push yet with the launch of its first country-specific subscription plan. On Monday, the company unveiled Cursor Start, priced at ₹649 a month (approximately $7), well below its standard $20-a-month Pro tier.

India has become a critical market for Cursor, now its third-largest globally and home to the highest concentration of power users. The user base in the country has more than tripled over the past year, according to the company.

Simon Green, Cursor's head of Asia-Pacific and Japan, said the localized pricing was driven by India's deep pool of software engineering talent and the opportunity to scale the commercial model. India is one of the world's largest developer markets, with GitHub reporting over 27 million developers on its platform, second only to the United States.

Cursor Start includes access to the startup's Composer 2.5 model and Grok 4. The move comes weeks before SpaceX's acquisition of Cursor is expected to close, signaling the company's focus on expanding in high-growth markets ahead of the deal.

Cursor also plans to ramp up local hiring and enterprise sales efforts in India, aiming to capitalize on the country's rapidly expanding developer ecosystem.
