Banana Emerges as Beauty's Fastest-Growing Ingredient

Banana is rapidly gaining traction in beauty, with perfume searches up 171.7% year over year and face mask interest soaring 305.1%, as brands tap into nostalgic, food-inspired trends.

Banana, a staple in kitchens worldwide, is now making waves in the beauty industry. According to Spate's popularity index, banana perfume has seen a 171.7% year-over-year increase in searches, making it one of the fastest-rising food-inspired fragrance trends. This surge outpaces other fruit scents such as cherry (+3.4%), coconut (+24.8%), and peach (+53.7%).

Beyond fragrance, banana is penetrating skincare, bodycare, and lip products. Searches and social engagement for banana face masks have jumped 305.1% year over year, reflecting a growing consumer appetite for sensory and emotionally resonant beauty products. The trend is still niche but shows strong momentum.

Spate forecasts banana perfume will continue its upward trajectory, predicting a further 32.4% growth over the next 12 months. This growth is part of a broader shift in beauty marketing, where brands increasingly borrow from food—using fruit, dessert, coffee, and confectionery imagery—to create aspirational lifestyles and sensory appeal.

For brands, the opportunity extends beyond a single fragrance note or skincare ingredient. Banana's nostalgic and comforting associations align with consumers' desire for products that deliver both enjoyment and emotional connection. As the trend evolves, more product launches incorporating banana as a scent, flavor, or active ingredient are expected.
