AMD unveils Helios AI rack system to rival Nvidia
AMD announced Helios, a rack-scale system for AI workloads, at its Advancing AI conference in San Francisco. The system is set to ship later this year and aims to challenge Nvidia's dominance in the AI data center market.
AMD Chair and CEO Dr. Lisa Su unveiled the Helios AI rack-scale system at the company's sold-out Advancing AI conference in San Francisco on Thursday. Helios combines multiple processors into a single high-powered unit designed for data centers training and running large AI models.
Su described Helios as the tech industry's "highest-performance AI rack," built to handle the most demanding frontier models at massive scale. The system will be deployed by leading AI companies at gigawatt-scale, according to AMD.
Helios enters a market long dominated by Nvidia's Vera Rubin and Grace Blackwell rack-scale systems. AMD claimed Helios outperforms Nvidia's Vera Rubin on several performance metrics, citing reports from The Register.
Microsoft is among the growing list of customers for the new system, which is slated to begin shipping later this year. The launch underscores AMD's push to capture a larger share of the AI hardware market.
