AI-Powered 'Journey to the West' Series to Explore Monkey King's Untold Origin
Utopai Studios and Huace Film & TV are co-producing a fully AI-generated animated series based on the classic Chinese myth 'Journey to the West', focusing on the Monkey King's backstory.
The legendary Monkey King is getting a high-tech makeover. Utopai Studios and Chinese entertainment giant Huace Film & TV have announced a partnership to produce 'Journey to the West: The Lost Five Hundred Years', an animated series created entirely using artificial intelligence.
The show will be powered by Utopai’s proprietary AI system, PAI. Rather than retelling the familiar pilgrimage story, the series delves into the untold origins of Sun Wukong, exploring why the rebellious trickster would become the protector of a monk after five centuries of imprisonment.
Under the agreement, Huace will handle production using the PAI system, while Utopai Studios will hold global distribution rights outside of China. The series is conceived as the first chapter in a planned theatrical franchise.
'Journey to the West: The Lost Five Hundred Years' is set to debut on broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms. The collaboration marks a significant milestone in merging cultural heritage with cutting-edge AI technology.
