Adidas Rebrands China Outdoor Line as Shanchuanli
Adidas has renamed its outdoor line in China as Shanchuanli, aiming to blend technical outdoor credibility with everyday urban style through a new campaign film and broader lifestyle positioning.
The rebranding marks a deeper localisation push by the German sportswear giant, moving beyond surface-level nods to Chinese culture. The name Shanchuanli is intended to evoke the free movement between city life and nature.
To bring the concept to life, Adidas produced a campaign film that intercuts mountain trails and camping gear with coffee shops, convenience stores and relaxed downtime, signalling that the line is for both specialist outdoor activity and everyday wear.
The label carries over the technical credibility of Adidas TERREX, extending it into a wider lifestyle proposition. The move comes as China's sports-lifestyle market splits in two directions: running and cycling increasingly emphasise performance metrics, while technical outdoor clothing such as hiking and climbing gear is being pulled toward mainstream urban culture.
Adidas is not alone in this approach. Helly Hansen recently mounted a Shenzhen activation built around a 'from sea to mountain' theme, with a cruise-based maritime experience followed by a hike at Yangtaishan. Adidas appears to be tapping a similar sentiment, betting that many consumers want function and aesthetics without being driven by hard-edged performance narratives.
