Travel VC Funding Falls Again as AI Startup Rounds Halve
Venture funding for travel companies slipped for a second consecutive quarter in 2026, with the number of AI-native startup rounds cut in half between the second and third quarters.
Twelve funding rounds for AI-native travel companies were recorded in the third quarter, down from 25 in the prior three months.
The sector's share of overall travel deal activity also narrowed, falling to 21% from 33% quarter over quarter.
Beyond the AI segment, travel venture funding declined across the board for the second straight quarter of 2026, while established travel companies continued to make targeted acquisitions rather than rely on growth-stage bets.
The shift is being described as a sign of where travel's investment capital is heading next, though it is too early to tell whether the pullback represents a lasting market movement.
