Tony Coveney on Leading Marriott Luxury Resorts in the Red Sea and Amaala

Tony Coveney, Area General Manager for Marriott Luxury The Red Sea and Amaala, shares his journey into luxury hospitality, his focus on developing talent, and what makes each of his three Red Sea resorts unique.

Tony Coveney, Area General Manager for Marriott Luxury The Red Sea and Amaala, oversees three properties operating under distinct Marriott International luxury brands. He recently shared insights into his career in luxury hospitality and his approach to leading a high-end portfolio.

As a first-generation hotelier, Coveney’s early exposure to the industry came through his father’s small stake in a hotel investment. During his school years, art and sport were his passions, helping him develop creative problem-solving skills and a keen eye for aesthetics and design.

The most satisfying aspect of his job, he explains, is working with a wide range of cultures and skills. He is deeply committed to people development, and seeing colleagues achieve their potential is an ongoing source of professional reward. Wasted talent, he says, remains a significant frustration.

Each of the Red Sea resorts, Coveney notes, is deliberately distinct. Differences in architecture, brand positioning, and the individual personalities of associates and leaders give every property its own character, ensuring guests encounter a unique experience at each destination.
