The Maker, Fragrance Brand From Fresh Co-Founders, Closes E-Commerce and Wholesale

Lev Glazman and Alina Roytberg have shut down The Maker, the fragrance line tied to their Hudson, N.Y., boutique hotel, ending e-commerce and wholesale operations. The founders say a revival remains possible as limited resources go toward hospitality.

The fragrance label announced on its website that its online shop has closed, and its wholesale business has also ceased. The brand said it does not yet know when it will reopen but will share any news through its channels, thanking customers for their enthusiasm and support.

The Maker was developed as an extension of Glazman and Roytberg's boutique luxury hotel in Hudson, N.Y. It received investment from True Beauty Ventures in 2024 and secured distribution at Goop, Bluemercury, Mecca and Sephora, where nine of its products are currently marked down 30% online.

With limited resources, the company chose to concentrate on its hotel rather than its fragrance business, at least for now. Growth of the hospitality operation could eventually provide an opportunity to revive the fragrance line.

An industry estimate projected The Maker's 2026 fragrance sales at $2 million to $5 million.

The brand's senior beauty team has also dispersed. General manager Shana Gradie lists her tenure at The Maker as ending in October on LinkedIn. Former director of sales and operations Monica Grecco started a new commercial operations role at Element Eight last month, and Rose Pilato left her CMO position at The Maker to take the same title at Fable & Mane in September.
