Steve Case to Outline 'Scarcity Shift' AI Investing Rule at Skift Global Forum 2026
Revolution chairman and CEO Steve Case will appear at Skift Global Forum on September 22–24, 2026, to explain the test behind his AI-era bets: whether a given thing becomes abundant or stays scarce.
Case, the AOL co-founder who now leads Revolution, frames his investment approach around a single question: whether AI will make a particular good or service abundant, or whether it will remain scarce. He calls the framework the Scarcity Shift.
Technology has historically pushed prices down and access up for information, content, planning and routine tasks, and Case argues AI is accelerating that abundance in the digital world. As those categories become cheaper and more widely available, he contends, what AI cannot build becomes more valuable — and that is where capital should go.
Revolution's portfolio reflects that logic. The firm is behind Exclusive Resorts, Inspirato and a Costa Rican peninsula, businesses tied to physical places and experiences rather than digital output.
Speaking on the question of how he screens decisions, Case said the abundance-or-scarcity test has shaped real choices at the firm. For the travel industry, he argues the central design question is which friction is worth protecting rather than removing.
Case joins the Skift Global Forum stage on September 22–24, 2026, where he is expected to lay out the rule behind those bets and its implications for how travel products are built.
