Regent Hotels to make Chengdu debut with 2029 opening
IHG Hotels & Resorts has partnered with Newhope Real Estate to open Regent Chengdu in the city's Jinjiang District by the third quarter of 2029, marking the luxury brand's first property in the southwestern Chinese metropolis.
The 180-room hotel will occupy levels 39 to 48 of a 233-metre landmark tower near Chunxi Road, Tianfu Square and the historic commercial core. Each guestroom and suite is designed to offer panoramic views of the Jinjiang River and the city skyline.
Daniel Aylmer, CEO of IHG Greater China, said Chengdu has long been a key market for the group, serving as the home of its West China regional headquarters. He emphasised the city's potential for luxury hospitality growth, given its cultural heritage and vibrant consumer market.
The development is part of IHG's strategy to expand its luxury presence across Greater China's premier urban destinations. Jiang Mengjun, Chairman and President of Newhope Real Estate, expressed confidence in the partnership, noting the company's commitment to creating destinations that connect Chengdu with the world.
Regent Chengdu will embody the brand's philosophy that life is best when rising above distractions, offering a refined hospitality experience. The project underscores continued investment in China's luxury hotel sector, with a focus on gateway cities like Chengdu.
