Party-Girl Glam and Crimped Hair Take Over New York Fashion Week Beauty
Backstage beauty teams at New York Fashion Week's spring 2027 shows converged on a single ideal: smudgy makeup, unkempt hair and full party-girl glam. Crimped, Y2K-referencing styles resurfaced on the runway at multiple shows.
Across the spring 2027 presentations in New York, backstage beauty teams appeared to work toward the same reference point — the coolest girl in the room, rendered in deliberately undone hair and lived-in makeup.
The party-girl look showed up in full at Conner Ives and Diane von Furstenberg, where smudgy makeup and messy styling carried the day.
Y2K-era crimped hair returned to the catwalk at Christian Siriano and Christian Cowan, giving the retro texture a contemporary spin.
At Christian Cowan, lead stylist Justine Marjan created two semi-crimped styles, named "The Siren Slipknot" and "The Mermaid Messy Knot," the second a modern reinterpretation of the messy bun. Marjan traced the retro direction to the 20th anniversary of TRESemmé's hero hairspray, noting that 2006 saw a wave of crimps and that trends tend to run in cycles.
Christian Cowan was not alone in reviving the divisive texture. Christian Siriano sent models down the runway with kinked hair styled into clownfish stripes by Lacy Redway, while stylist Joey George offered partial crimping that looked as though a straightener had been held on one section for too long.
