McDonald’s and POP MART Open ‘Twinkle Twinkle’ Pop-Up Playground in Shenzhen
McDonald’s is marking 35 years in China with an immersive pop-up playground in Shenzhen, created in partnership with POP MART and featuring the 'Twinkle Twinkle' IP by illustrator Daxin.
McDonald’s has partnered with POP MART to open a “Twinkle Twinkle” immersive pop-up playground at its Shenzhen location, celebrating the fast-food chain’s 35th anniversary in China.
The activation transforms the restaurant into a dreamlike space centered on POP MART’s “Twinkle Twinkle” IP, created by illustrator Daxin. The story follows tiny starry figures that wake at night to collect dreams and protect against nightmares.
Visitors can enter the playground by paying with an order of fries, blending McDonald’s classic menu with the collectible toy culture that has made POP MART a Gen Z phenomenon. The experience merges nostalgic 1990s golden arches branding with modern blind-box obsession.
Shenzhen, a city that evolved from a fishing village to a tech megacity in just 40 years, provides a fitting setting for this collaboration. The pop-up is part of a broader trend of brands turning everyday spaces into interactive experiences.
