Makeup Artist Olivier Echaudemaison Dies at 84
Olivier Echaudemaison, the visionary makeup artist who created color cosmetics for Guerlain and Givenchy, has died at 84. He also styled hair for the Duchess of Windsor and numerous celebrities.
Echaudemaison passed away early Wednesday in a Paris hospital following an illness, Guerlain confirmed in a statement. The house called him "an iconic figure in the maison's contemporary history and a leading personality in the world of beauty and creation."
Known for his artistry and flair, Echaudemaison masterminded makeup collections for some of France's most storied luxury houses. He was a fixture at Paris press conferences, where beauty editors hung on his every word as he unveiled seasonal color trends and products.
His client list was long and high-profile, including the Duchess of Windsor and a roster of dignitaries and celebrities. His influence extended beyond cosmetics into hairstyling, cementing his reputation as a multifaceted talent in the beauty world.
Fashion designer Josie Natori remembered Echaudemaison as "bigger than life," noting they became instant friends 44 years ago after an introduction by the then-editor in chief of Town & Country. "He has been a very meaningful part of my life," she said Wednesday.
