IndiGo Lifts Fees for Infant Travel, Baggage and Priority Services
IndiGo has raised charges across a range of optional services, including infant travel, excess baggage and priority check-in, while leaving its core low fares untouched.
Passengers flying with infants on IndiGo now pay INR 3,000 ($31) for a child between three days and two years old travelling without a separate seat, up from INR 2,000 ($21).
Domestic excess baggage has risen to INR 800 ($8.3) per kilogram from INR 700 ($7.3), while the carrier's Fast Forward priority check-in and boarding service now costs INR 650 ($7) domestically, compared with INR 450 ($5) previously.
The revisions extend beyond those items. Fees for unaccompanied minors and for travel certificates have also been increased, according to the updated schedule of optional charges.
Each individual increase is modest. Taken together, they highlight one of the more direct commercial levers available to the airline as it enters the Willie Walsh era: extracting more revenue from passengers without altering the low base fares that underpin its business model.
The balancing act for IndiGo is how much additional ancillary revenue it can generate before the cumulative cost of extras begins to erode the low-cost feel that defines its market positioning.
