Delta Signals Bigger Texas Push With Austin Base and Paris Route
Delta Air Lines is expanding in Texas, opening a 100-person flight attendant base at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, securing 15 gates and launching a new Paris route, as the carrier positions Austin as a potential hub.
Delta Air Lines chief executive Ed Bastian said this week that the carrier wants to be bigger in Texas, with growth planned in both Austin and San Antonio. The statement, made on the "Airlines Confidential" podcast, underscores Delta's push into a state where American Airlines and Southwest have long held strong positions.
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is central to that strategy. Delta has established a base there with 100 flight attendants, secured 15 gates and is preparing to open an additional lounge. The airline is also selling Austin-themed pint glasses, keychains and t-shirts in its hub merchandise store, another sign of the city's rising status within its network.
A major milestone is on the horizon: Delta is set to launch Austin's first nonstop flight to Europe, with service to Paris scheduled to begin on March 27, 2027.
Texas is one of the fastest-growing states in the U.S., and American, Southwest and United already operate significant networks there. Delta's expansion suggests Austin could be on its way to becoming the carrier's next hub.
