Wyndham Lets AI Assistants Book Its Hotels Directly
Wyndham is opening its hotel inventory to AI booking assistants including Meta's Muse, OpenAI's Dots and Instinct, with CEO Geoff Ballotti casting autonomous agents as a new guest segment.
Wyndham's central reservation system supplies availability and rates directly to the AI assistants, enabling them to search and complete hotel bookings on a traveler's behalf. CEO Geoff Ballotti outlined the setup on Thursday's third-quarter earnings call, describing autonomous agents as an additional guest category the company is equipped to serve.
The franchiser behind Super 8 and La Quinta cited Meta's Muse, OpenAI's Dots and Instinct among the AI assistants it is opening inventory to. Ballotti said a direct booking path that an AI agent can execute easily would allow Wyndham to capture that guest.
Wyndham has spent years telling Wall Street that its guests are construction crews, truck drivers and families driving to beach destinations. Ballotti's remarks add AI agents to that customer roster.
Morgan Stanley analysts see AI agents potentially costing hotel groups less per booking than online travel agencies. Wyndham's push is focused on direct bookings, which the company says could cut distribution costs.
The AI-agent strategy was discussed alongside Wyndham's third-quarter results, when the company reported a 6% increase in RevPAR. Ballotti positioned direct bookings through AI agents as a way to lower distribution costs and strengthen the company's direct channel.
