White House Convened Tech CEOs for AI Safety Pledge, Trump Rebrands AI as 'Super Intelligence'

Major technology chief executives signed an AI safety pledge at the White House that President Donald Trump called "morally binding," while a new executive order formally renames artificial intelligence as "super intelligence."

The pledge was signed by a roster of technology leaders that included Meta's Mark Zuckerberg, Amazon's Jeff Bezos, Tesla and xAI's Elon Musk and Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei, according to the account. President Donald Trump described the commitment as "morally binding."

In a separate move, Trump signed an executive order that officially rebrands artificial intelligence as "super intelligence." The White House gathering was described as drawing nearly every major tech CEO into a single room.

Alongside the Washington event, Meta and OpenAI have been putting friendlier public faces on their AI products, even as the largest sums of money in the sector continue to come from enterprise customers rather than consumers.

The week's developments also included discussion of the difficult economics of consumer-facing AI and a cooling market for initial public offerings.

Deal activity discussed in the same period spanned maritime technology, supply chains and space insurance.
