Uber to Add Vacation Rentals via Expedia as Airbnb Sets 2027 AI Agent Debut
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi confirmed the company will add vacation rental content through its Expedia Group integration, while Airbnb's Brian Chesky pledged on stage to launch an AI agent in 2027.
Khosrowshahi said Uber plans to fold vacation rental inventory into its app through the tie-up it already has with Expedia Group, pushing the platform further beyond ride-hailing and into accommodation.
He also put a number on Uber's hotel business, saying 80% of its hotel bookings are generated by UberOne members — a demand channel that reaches the company without passing through Google.
Airbnb chief executive Brian Chesky used his own stage appearance to commit to launching an AI agent in 2027, describing it as the most important product the company has ever built.
The two announcements were the centerpiece of a discussion among industry commentators Brandreth Canaley, Michael Goldin and Jamie Lane, who walked through the sessions and flagged them as developments short-term rental operators should be tracking.
Their focus was on what the pair of moves means for the way short-term rental listings are discovered and recommended to travelers going forward.
