Tatcha Refines Brand Strategy Under New CEO, Adds Naomi Osaka as Ambassador

Tatcha is sharpening its skin care positioning with a neuroscience-driven approach and three new ambassadors, including tennis star Naomi Osaka, under new CEO Diane Kim.

Tatcha is entering a new chapter marked by what chief executive officer Diane Kim describes as a "refinement" of its long-standing brand story. Kim, who took the helm in February after succeeding Mary Yee, said the company is not reinventing itself but adding greater precision to the narrative it has built since its founding in 2009 by Vicky Tsai. The brand became a category-defining success in the 2010s and was acquired by Unilever in 2019 in a deal valued at $500 million.

As part of the repositioning, Tatcha has named three new ambassadors, including professional tennis player Naomi Osaka. The appointments align with a deepened focus on science-based messaging, anchored by a proprietary approach called NeuroSkin Science that highlights the connection between inner and outer well-being.

Kim, a veteran of The Estée Lauder Cos. and Orveon Global, explained that the new direction grows out of one of Tatcha's founding Japanese principles, "hinou-dokon," which translates to "skin and mind, same root." The brand's identity has long rested on three pillars: takumi, the spirit of Japanese craftsmanship; hinou-dokon; and bidou, rituals of beauty as a way of life.

"We're expressing Tatcha in a much more elevated and modern way," Kim said, signaling that the brand intends to stand out in a crowded skin care market by blending its heritage with contemporary scientific credibility.
