TapTap Maker Lets Anyone Build Games With a Single Prompt
TapTap's AI tool, TapTap Maker, is enabling anyone to create games with simple prompts, leading to a nearly ninefold jump in new releases on the platform.
At ChinaJoy, held in Shanghai from July 31 to August 3, TapTap showcased TapTap Maker, an AI-powered game development tool that turns text prompts into playable games. The expo occupied 140,000 square meters and featured more than 900 companies from dozens of countries, with this year's theme centered on AI.
The tool, released in early 2026, is designed to remove technical barriers for aspiring developers. Users can describe a game concept—such as a pastel-colored world inspired by Minecraft or a pterodactyl-themed side-scroller—and the system generates the game without requiring coding or funding.
The impact is already visible in release numbers. TapTap reported over 5,000 new games launched in the first half of the year, an 843.8% increase from the same period last year. Roughly 4,000 of these games were built using AI, with the majority coming from amateurs and first-time creators.
The surge suggests that the lack of programming skills no longer prevents people from publishing games. TapTap's push aligns with ChinaJoy's "Level Up with AI" theme, placing AI at the center of the gaming industry's recent developments.
