Spotify Introduces Playlist Notes for Listeners and Editors

Spotify is rolling out Playlist Notes, a new feature that lets listeners add context to songs, podcasts and audiobooks in their playlists. Editorial teams are also adopting the tool across major curated playlists.

The feature, introduced Monday, builds on the User Notes tool that Spotify launched last month for individual tracks. Playlist Notes extends that capability to entire playlists, giving users a way to explain why certain items were chosen.

To add a note, users can open a playlist they own or collaborate on in the mobile app, tap the three dots next to a track, episode or audiobook, select "add note" and save it. Any person able to view the playlist will see the note.

Spotify is also enabling its own editors to use Playlist Notes on its curated playlists. The rollout covers major lists such as Today's Top Hits, RapCaviar, Hot Country, All New Pop, and Fresh Finds Hip-Hop.

Alongside the new notes, Spotify is introducing Editor Profiles, which display an editor's top tracks and albums along with the playlists they manage. This is meant to give listeners more insight into the people behind Spotify's curated picks.
