Portuguese footwear makers take on global fashion weeks through designer tie-ups

Shoes made in Portugal appeared in roughly 20 runway shows across New York, Paris, Milan and London, as manufacturers paired with international designers for the 2026 season.

Portuguese footwear production is gaining visibility at the leading international fashion weeks, with 'Made in Portugal' shoes appearing in around 20 catwalk presentations spanning New York, Paris, Milan and London.

At New York Fashion Week alone, Portuguese-made footwear featured in at least four shows. Patricio Campillo worked again with Mariano Shoes on his spring/summer collection, while Daniella Kallmeyer presented designs developed with JJ Heitor.

Johnson Hartig sent Libertine models down the runway in shoes from Portuguese label Helena Mar, and Henry Zankov debuted a collaboration with Luís Onofre — the first footwear line for his own brand. Zankov, who is Russian-born and serves as creative director of Diane von Furstenberg, drew on 1960s references and personal memories for the range, which includes flat sandals, high heels and platforms, with colour as a central element.

Zankov and Luís Onofre met in Porto last June to develop the collection, which was shown in New York. Thirty pairs of shoes were produced in three weeks.
