Patagonia Brings Repair Festival to Shanghai, Fixing Gear From Any Brand

Patagonia's Visible Repairs festival opened in Shanghai on 19 September and runs until 7 October, with repair teams servicing outdoor equipment regardless of which label made it.

The Visible Repairs festival opened in Shanghai on 19 September and is scheduled to run until 7 October. Worn Wear repair sessions are being held on three of those days, with teams brought in to work on visitors' outdoor equipment.

The repair stations handle a broad mix of gear, including climbing shoes, trekking poles, paddles and snowboards. Items are accepted whether or not they carry the Patagonia label, widening the field of people with a reason to attend.

Alongside the repairs, workshops show visitors how to mend and customise the items they bring in. One session does this using leftover exhibition materials, turning show-floor waste into raw material for fixes.

In practice, a visitor could arrive with a damaged backpack and leave with a repaired strap plus a skill they can apply again later. Patagonia hands over something useful without asking the guest to buy another bag.

The approach puts shoppers who have never purchased a Patagonia item in front of the brand, creating a first encounter that could matter years down the line. It also restates the company's central message about caring for the planet.

Anyone with battered outdoor gear qualifies to take part, and by definition those visitors already climb, hike or ski, making them potential Patagonia customers.
