Notes Dubai to Launch as the Gulf's First Niche Perfumery Fair

Messe Frankfurt Middle East will debut Notes Dubai, a trade fair for niche, independent and artistic fragrance, from Jan. 21 to 23 at the Dubai Mall Exhibition Center, with “Genesis” as the theme of its first edition.

The organizer, which also runs Beauty World Dubai, is billing the new show as a curated alternative to a conventional trade fair. Its remit is to put heritage fragrance houses and independent perfumers in front of retailers, distributors and buyers across the Gulf, the region's largest fragrance market.

Notes Dubai is the sister event to Notes Shanghai, Messe Frankfurt Middle East's existing niche perfumery platform in Asia. The first-edition theme, “Genesis,” was announced on Tuesday in Cannes during the TFWA World Exhibition & Conference.

According to the organizer, that theme traces how a fragrance comes into being — from an initial idea or memory through raw materials and first accords to the moment the scent is first worn.

Fragrance accounts for 49 percent of luxury beauty spending in the market, by the organizer's own count, underscoring the category's weight in the region's prestige beauty business.

“Dubai has the consumers, the houses, the retail and the taste of one of the world's great fragrance cities, but never a niche perfumery show to call its own, until now,” said Ravi Ramchandani, event director of both Notes Dubai and Beauty World Dubai.
