Motion Equity Partners Takes Majority Stake in Beauty CDMO Capsum
Motion Equity Partners has acquired a majority stake in Capsum, a contract development and manufacturing organization specializing in advanced skin care, makeup and hair care, from Chanel, which stays on as a minority investor alongside founding CEO Sébastien Bardon and the management team.
The transaction gives the investment firm control of the formulation and manufacturing specialist, which develops and produces advanced skin care, makeup and hair care for brand clients. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Chanel, previously the majority owner, retains a minority holding in the business. Bardon, who founded Capsum and remains chief executive, keeps a stake along with the wider management team.
Bardon characterized the ownership change as continuity rather than rupture, describing it as the opening of a third chapter in the company's history.
Patrick Eisenchteter, managing partner at Motion Equity Partners, said the firm was drawn to Capsum's position at the intersection of technology, beauty and industrial capability, calling it a science-led business where innovation and sustainability are engineered across the whole process.
He added that the group had progressed from scientific breakthroughs to a distinctive innovation platform, and that it has built close working relationships with many of the world's leading beauty brands.
