Hermès Reopens Renovated Boutique at Taikoo Li in Chengdu
Hermès has reopened its renovated and expanded boutique in Chengdu, China, where the house's sixteen métiers are presented inside a redesigned interior by Parisian architecture studio RDAI.
The store has occupied its site in Taikoo Li, an open-air mall in Chengdu, since 2014, and the reworked interior now brings together all sixteen of the house's métiers across a warm and expansive setting.
The exterior is clad in dark timber, matte-finish metal and enamelled ceramic in amber tones, with a sleek, linear façade set off by tall windows. Inside, Parisian architecture studio RDAI shaped the space around plays of light, shadow and line.
At the ground-floor entrance, jade green and deep blue sit alongside mineral-inspired patterns drawn from local techniques. The Faubourg mosaic and the signature ex-libris motif appear in the silk and fashion jewellery area, which opens into a lofty setting.
The perfume and beauty area overlooks the Daci Temple and is structured by a vertical rhythm in black ceramics that references traditional Sichuan pottery. To the left, geometric wall fabric accents the men's universe.
A staircase in smoked wood, fashioned into an interlocking woven design, leads up to women's shoes and women's ready-to-wear, positioned next to the home collections, whose tonal depth comes from shades of espresso. Bespoke, organically shaped furnishings and natural tones complement the crisp geometry of the space.
