Google Play Adds Venmo as a Payment Option
Google announced the Venmo payment integration on Monday, allowing U.S. customers to link their Venmo accounts and use them to buy digital content on Google Play. The option covers purchases such as games, apps, add-ons and other digital goods, as well as subscriptions and creator tips within content-based apps.
To set up the feature, users must go to the payment methods section in their Google Play account settings and link their Venmo account. Payments can be made through Venmo's wallet or other linked methods, including bank accounts and cards.
Venmo joins an existing lineup of digital payment options on Google Play, which already includes PayPal, Cash App and major credit and debit cards such as American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Discover and JCB.
The rollout arrives as consumer spending on mobile apps and games continues to surge. In 2025, user spend across iOS and Google Play topped $167 billion for in-app purchases, up 10.6% year-over-year, according to analytics firm Sensor Tower.
Outside the U.S., Google has also tested allowing customers to pay for digital purchases with cash at nearby stores, part of its broader push to increase payment flexibility on the platform.
